At the 12th Conference of the 12th Central Committee, at the request of the Political Bureau, the Central voted to expel the former Vice Minister of Defense of the Party, Nguyen Van Hien.
Mr. Hien is an admiral in the Navy, formerly a member of the eleventh-term Central Committee. He is currently a defendant in a ground military case, which will be prosecuted next week.
Previously, Mr. Hien was disciplined by the Politburo, and now with the results of criminal investigations and prosecutions by the procedural authorities, there are sufficient reasons to expel the Party.
Also at this conference, the Central Committee additionally elected two members of the XII Review Central Committee, Ms. Tran Thi Hien (currently Director of the General Department of the Central Inspection Committee) and Mr. Nguyen Van Hung. (Currently Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Kon Tum Party).
Hung, born in 1964, is a member of the Central Committee, so the Central Inspection Committee is likely to carry out the procedure for electing a vice president, a position of office that is structured as a member of the Party Central Committee.
Party discipline and staff work are the final job before the 12th Central Party closed this afternoon, after nearly four business days.
