United States Attorney General Barr was aware of the Hunter Biden investigation, but did not reveal it for fear it could affect the election results.
US President Donald Trump and Republicans have urged Attorney General William Barr to investigate Hunter Biden for months, sources familiar with the matter said Tuesday. However, Barr did not provide information on the investigation despite the request of Republican MPs without explaining why.
Hunter Biden, the son of President-elect Joe Biden, said on December 9 that the US Attorney’s Office in the state of Delaware had announced that it was investigating his tax affairs.
In addition to Delaware, federal prosecutors in Manhattan are also believed to have analyzed Hunter Biden’s business and financial transactions, as part of a larger investigation.
However, sources familiar with the matter said that during the investigations in Delaware and Manhattan, investigators tried not to release information before the November presidential election. It is said that Minister Barr also knew about the investigation earlier this year, but it is unclear when and how he learned of the news.
The president of the United States on the night of December 10 also expressed disappointment when the Department of Justice and the FBI did not announce the Hunter Biden investigation soon. “Why didn’t the fake news outlets, the FBI, and the Justice Department announce the Biden issue before the election?” He wrote on Twitter.
Guidance from the Department of Justice recommends that investigators take no overt action on the eve of an election so as not to consider compromising results.
The president of the United States was initially dissatisfied with the Attorney General for not directing the origin of the FBI investigation to accuse Russia of interfering in the 2016 American elections. Trump’s disappointment recently peaked when Barr asserted. Determined to uncover evidence of voter fraud this year.
Hunter’s investigation was announced just five days before the Electoral College is expected to officially vote for Biden as the next president. During the reelection campaign, President Donald Trump repeatedly accused the Biden family of “corruption” and “criminal business.”
Biden has said he will not interfere with the Justice Department investigation. However, observers believe that Hunter’s investigation may create additional challenges for the president-elect of the United States in ensuring the independence of the judiciary.
