HCMCTen days after being stolen, ancient pearls made of green pottery were found in the Mesopotamian painting relief in Le Van Duyet’s mausoleum.
On September 12, Mr. Tran Van Sung, Deputy Director of Le Van Duyet Tomb Relic (Binh Thanh District), said that on September 2, the board of directors discovered the ancient pearl that had been lost since 1922. When they took out the camera, they found the stolen antiquities late on August 29.
On the afternoon of 9/9, the Binh Thanh district police confiscated the fruit and many other items stolen by the man. After completing the investigation, the police returned the ancient pearls to the tomb’s management unit on the afternoon of September 11.
This afternoon, two employees of the Ho Chi Minh City Monuments Conservation Center installed and used stone glue to fix the approximately one meter high assembly (including the pedestal) on the relief of the Dinh Tien Hoang street gate. .
During the past 25 years, Le Van Duyet’s grave has been robbed many times. Two years ago, during the restoration of the garden lighting system, the mausoleum lost seven of the first eight reliefs. In 2012, two children’s reliefs were also stolen from the gate on Phan Dang Luu Street. In the restoration phase of 2010, the old decorated plaque in the incense house was lost. In 1995, the pair of reliefs that Mr. Nhat Ba Nguyet built on this house were also stolen.
According to Mr. Sung, during the time of restoration and beautification of the mausoleum to celebrate festivals, there is often an opportunity for thieves to enter. The mausoleum is located near the Ba Chieu market, quite crowded, full of people, so it is difficult to guarantee security and order. Over seven years, the mausoleum’s administration installed 26 surveillance cameras, recruited 5 security guards on duty day and night, but it has still been robbed.
“Next time, we will publish a very specific regulation on the protection of property in the mausoleum, clearly enclosing the responsibility of each person, to minimize theft,” Sung said. .
Currently, the antiquities in the Le Van Duyet mausoleum, the board of directors can only determine the date, and in terms of material value, it is necessary to determine the exact value of antiquities experts.
Tomb of Le Van Duyet (people called Lang Ong), built in 1848, is the temple and tomb of the Left Army Le Van Duyet (born 1764, died 1832) located at 1 Vu Tung Street. The mausoleum is 18,500 m2 wide on a high mound overlooking the three streets of Phan Dang Luu, Trinh Hoai Duc, Dinh Tien Hoang. The Le Van Duyet commemoration ceremony is held annually at the mausoleum on July 29-30 and August 1-2 (lunar calendar).
Before 1975, the road that ran west of the mausoleum (from Lang to Bong Bridge) was called Le Van Duyet. After 1975, this section was renamed and merged with Dinh Tien Hoang Street (District 1). On July 11, this 947m stretch of road was agreed to restore the old name of Le Van Duyet street by the City Council at the proposal of the mausoleum’s board of directors.
