The father woke up to find his son motionless in the crack near the wall, his body was purple. Despite the doctor’s efforts to recover, the rare accident has claimed the life of the 6-month-old patient.

On November 6, information from Dr. Truong Huu Khanh, Children’s Hospital 1, Ho Chi Minh City, said that he had just received a case of death before being admitted to the hospital with a very tragic situation. Consequently, at 9 am on November 3, the Emergency Department received a 6-month-old case, resident in District 8, that his parents took to the hospital in a state of cardiac apnea.

Quickly taking advantage of the medical history of the doctor of the parents of pediatric patients, around 4 am the same day, the baby was sleeping next to the father and mother on a 26 cm thick mattress near the floor, the baby woke up crying for milk, making father and mother woke up. Dad gave the baby a bottle, then he went to sleep and the mother went downstairs for breakfast and went to the market.

Trapped in the groove, 6 month old baby tragically died - 1
There have been many accidents that have resulted in a tragic death while sleeping with adults.

At 7:00 am, the father woke up and could not find his son lying on the mattress, he turned to see the baby lying on his stomach, he put his body in the gap between the mattress wall and the wall. The father hastily delivered the baby to puberty and discovered that the boy was cyanotic, not moving, so he immediately went to the hospital to look for it.

At the time of receiving the pediatric patient, the doctor said that the baby could have died a long time because the pupils were dilated and lost the reflectance of the light, the muscle tone was relatively rigid and the pharyngeal reflex was no longer there. Despite receiving positive resuscitation for 1 hour by the crew, the baby has absolutely no return of heart rate.

Since the previous tragic accident, doctors recommend that parents exercise caution when letting young children sleep together. Be careful about the gaps between the bed and the wall, even if they are small. Young children, when they can turn around, can roll over and get trapped in space, but they cannot escape on their own. When trapped too long, the child suffocates and the lack of brain oxygen leads to death.

As recommended by the American Pediatric Association (AAP), to keep children safe while they sleep, ABC principles should be followed. A (solo): Children should not sleep with an adult because there is always the potential risk of the child being overwhelmed by the adult and in fact there have been many cases. B (Back): Babies should sleep on their back because tummy routines in some babies and infants can prevent a baby from turning on their back and choking C (Crib) – Children should sleep in a crib with a sturdy crib, the space between the bars should not be too wide to fit the child’s body. If possible, the crib should be placed next to the parents’ bed so that parents can quickly detect any abnormalities in the crib.
