At the investigative agency, Tho claimed that he used to come and go to Mr. Ba Chieu’s mausoleum. On the roof of Dinh’s stele there was valuable fruit, so the intention to steal arises. On the night of August 28, Tho drove a motorcycle from Bien Hoa (Dong Nai) City to Ho Chi Minh City thinking about how to steal fruit.

Around 12:10 am on August 29, Tho parked his motorcycle at the Gia Dinh People’s Hospital and passed the mausoleum of Mr. Ba Chieu. Observing the absence of people, Tho climbed through the fence gate of Ong Ba Chieu’s mausoleum, climbed onto the roof of Dinh’s stele to steal the fruit.

While stealing the fruit, Tho heard the barking of a dog, so someone doubted it would be discovered. Thinking like this, Tho hid the trinkets in the fence next to Le Van Duyet’s grave and jumped the fence (on the Dinh Tien Hoang side) to get out.

At around 1:30 am on August 29, Tho wandered around Mr. Ba Chieu’s mausoleum to see the situation. Seeing that no one noticed, Tho climbed the fence to Mr. Ba Chieu’s mausoleum, took out the pearl, and hid behind a nearby bus stop.

Tho drank water near the door of the Gia Dinh People’s Hospital. At about 4:00 a.m. on August 29, Tho took a motorcycle and ran to hide the pearl, took the antiques to his car and took it to his own home in Phuoc Buu Town, Xuyen Moc District, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.

At noon on August 29, while at home, Tho telephoned Tran Hien Si with information about the fruit and negotiated to sell Si for 13 million dong.

Particularly Si testified on August 29, he went down to Xuyen Moc district to buy fruit. While transporting the antiques, the trinket got scratched in places. When he arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, Si asked a craftsman from the Binh Chanh district to overcome the status quo.

Searching for Si’s whereabouts, the Binh Thanh district police confiscated a set of fire ornaments, a vase and a ceramic flower. In addition, in Si’s house there are about 155 ceramic, porcelain and pottery objects of unknown origin.

Initially, Si confessed to purchasing the Fire Chau Ceramic Vase and Flower Set from Tho in mid-May 8, 2020 for 2.8 million VND. Tho also admitted that these antiquities were stolen from a temple in Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai.

After recovering the antiquities, the Binh Thanh district police and functional agencies organized an inspection, determined the value of the pearl at about 350 million VND and handed it over to the board of trustees of the Mausoleum of Mr. Ba Chieu, reassembling the old charge. .

The Le Van Duyet mausoleum is also called the Thuong Cong shrine, including the temple area and the tomb of the Le Van Duyet Left Army (1764 – 1832); located at No. 1 Vu Tung Street, with West Gate at 126 Le Van Duyet Street, Ward 1, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City.

Because the Ong Mausoleum is located in the Ba Chieu area, people used to call the Ong Ba Chieu Mausoleum (ie “Ong Mausoleum at Ba Chieu”) to refer to this area.

Before 1975, the route that ran west of Ong’s mausoleum (from the mausoleum to the Bong Bridge) was called Le Van Duyet Avenue.

On August 14, 1975, this section was renamed because it shared the same name with Dinh Tien Hoang Street (on the District 1 side). On July 11, 2020, after 45 years of renaming, this road will regain the old name of Le Van Duyet street.
