A young man from Sri Lanka contracted Covid-19 after leaving Ho Chi Minh City

The young male with Sri Lankan nationality before leaving Vietnam on September 12 tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. However, on September 18, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control informed the District 7 People’s Committee that this person contracted Covid-19 in Sri Lanka.

Ms. Hieu said that immediately after receiving the information, authorities and the district health force had zoned the hotel, where the patient lived before returning home, and investigated the epidemiology of patient contact cases in 28 days before.

The Steering Committee for the Prevention and Control of Covid-19 Ho Chi Minh City met on the afternoon of September 21.

Through a review, the District 7 functional force identified 15 people in contact with the patient, including staff, hotel managers and roommates; in which 1 person with close contact focused on the isolator in District 7, the remaining 14 people monitored their health at home. The test results of these 15 people were negative for SARS-CoV-2. Functional forces also sprayed and disinfected the Covid-19 hotel.

As of the afternoon of September 21, Ho Chi Minh City spent 54 days without discovering new cases of Covid-19 in the community, 77 cases of SARS-CoV-2 virus infection were cured.
