President Biden signed the first executive order of 15 decrees and 2 documents signed immediately after the inauguration – AP Screenshot
As previously predicted by the American media, Biden quickly canceled many regulations under his predecessor Donald Trump shortly after the inauguration. When asked about the letter left by his predecessor, Biden declined to reveal the contents, but described it as a “very generous” letter.
Of the 15 executive orders and two “agency action” documents signed by President Biden, there are decrees that end restrictions on entry for citizens of Muslim-majority countries. This is one of the first decrees signed by Trump after taking office in 2017.
Another noteworthy ordinance is the requirement to wear masks in federal office buildings and on federal land. President Biden also ended the “national security emergency” that Trump has enacted to mobilize money to build a border wall with Mexico.
The new president emphasized his swift actions to show the American people that he would keep his promises. “I think with the current situation, we have no time to lose. Let’s get to work immediately,” Biden told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House.
Before that, just after the inauguration, President Biden’s administration also announced a list of 23 acting ministers or heads of the federal executive agency.
All of these individuals are appointed by Mr. Biden to help facilitate the functioning of federal ministries and agencies. They will hold office until their ministerial candidates receive Senate approval.
Among the appointed acting ministers were Mr. Daniel Smith, Director of the American Academy of Foreign Relations. According to the Reuters news agency, he Smith will be temporary remains as Acting Secretary of State until Antony Blinken is formally approved by the Senate.
There are currently no indications that Mr. Blinken is experiencing difficulties in the ratification process. A seasoned foreign policy politician had his approval hearing on January 19 in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Vice President Kamala Harris is also busy with her job on Capitol Hill: witnessing the swearing in of three senators, including two elected senators from Georgia, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.
Since Ms. Harris became vice president, her Senate seat has also been transferred to someone else. Mr. Alex Padilla, who was appointed by the Governor of California to replace him, was sworn in on Capitol Hill in the presence of Ms. Harris.
