The shooting took place in the Don Carter Lanes area just before 7:00 p.m. (local time), according to ABC News, reporting from the Rockford Police Unit. Police said a suspect was arrested.
“When the police arrived at the scene, the culprit was still inside the building. No police officer used their weapons, ”said Rockford Sheriff Dan O’Shea. He added that the police believed the assailant had opened fire in a panic. The state prosecutor’s office has been informed of the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.
Also according to Sheriff O’Shea, at least two minors were among the shooting victims, but they were unable to provide details on the injured or killed victims.
Police added that some people were shot outside the building and some people were shot inside. Through Twitter, Rockford police advised residents to stay away from the area near Don Carter Lanes.
