Before Tan Suu Lunar New Year 2021, some 20 bougainvillea trees planted on the main roads leading to the Vung Tau city entrance, Vo Nguyen Giap Street and Highway 2-9 were suddenly robbed by thieves.

After several days of investigation, on February 14, the Vung Tau City Police arrested Nguyen Van Vu (51 years old, resident of Long Son Commune, Vung Tau City) on suspicion of stealing these trees.

These bougainvillea trees, over 15 years old, are planted by the Vung Tau Urban and Green Park Development Joint Stock Company (UPC) to create a beautiful landscape for the entrance to the city of Vung Tau. The stolen bougainvillea trees are over 2 meters high and the trunk is over 10 cm in diameter.

The act of cutting down a bougainvillea tree causes frustration to Vung Tau residents and tourists because it not only damages the property of the tree management company, but also affects the urban beauty of Vung Tau City.

On the morning of February 14, the Vung Tau city police caught Nguyen Van Vu taking a handsaw to 9-9 Street to steal confetti. When searching Vu’s garden in Village 2, Long Son Commune, the police discovered and seized many bougainvillea trees.

Working with the police station, the subject admitted to using a saw to steal the trunks of bougainvillea trees on the streets of Vung Tau city to bring back the seedlings to sell and spend.
