Leading, but Real Madrid took three penalties and lost to Valencia 1-4 on matchday nine of La Liga on November 8.

Points: Soler (pen) 35 ‘, (pen) 54’ and (pen) 63 ‘, Varane (own goal) 43’ – Benzema 23 ‘.

Valencia are the second team to score four goals against Real with coach Zinedine Zidane, after Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey earlier this year (winning 4-3). Especially in the 4-1 victory on November 8, no Valencia player scored with a live ball. They destroyed Real thanks to three successful penalties by Carlos Soler and an own goal by Raphael Varane.

In this match, four defenders from Real Lucas Vázquez, Varane, Marcelo and Sergio Ramos made the same mistake that resulted in four goals. Vázquez let the ball touch in the area to help Soler equalize 1-1, Varane scored at the end of the first half, Marcelo made a mistake that led to a second penalty and Ramos let the ball touch his hand at the third penalty from Valencia.

Losing Casemiro and Eden Hazard because they were positive for the virus, coach Zidane replaced Isco and Vinicius Jr. Toni Kroos was also in reserve, giving Modric the main kick. Realizing that Real’s midfield lacked certainty, host Valencia played a double attack from the start of the match. This made Real Madrid a bit easy to kick and opened the scoring in the 23rd minute thanks to Karim Benzema, the man who scored the most goals in La Liga since the football epidemic returned. This is also the French forward’s fifth goal in the last four games against Valencia.

The home team also took only seven minutes to find the opportunity. After the ball hit Vázquez’s hand, Soler faced Thibaut Courtois from a distance of 11 meters. The Valencia midfielder brought the ball to the post before Musah kicked the net. The referee rejected the goal because Musah was offside, but he sanctioned Valencia again after the VAR confirmed that the Real player entered the area early. Soler, in the second shot, tied for Valencia.

Few people expected, it was Soler’s hattrick’s first goal in this game. The Real defenders reappeared with a disastrous performance losing to Shakhtar Donetsk 2-3 in the Champions League, but this time, they cannot justify Ramos’ absence. The Real leader played the full 90 minutes, but could not help the defense.

VAR continued to help Valencia score the second goal, when Varane made a poor save, just enough to fly the ball over Real’s goal line at the end of the first half. In the last five games, the French midfielder has scored two goals, as many as in his 324 previous games.

At the beginning of the second half, Real continued to lose two clumsy goals. Ramos made a mistake on both goals. It was not well coordinated in Marcelo, then he let the ball touch his hand nine minutes later, causing Real to receive two penalties. Soler did not miss the opportunity to complete a penalty hattrick, thus becoming the first player to do so in La Liga in the 21st century.

In the seventh match, coach Javi Gracia beat Real Madrid for the first time. Valencia moved up to ninth place with the same 11 points as Barça, five points behind Real, the team ranked fourth. Teacher and student Zidane snapped a four-game unbeaten streak and also suffered losses when Benzema had a groin problem.
