An image of a teacher standing in the middle of the schoolyard, with her feet covered in mud and up to her knees, has just been published on social networks.

It is known that Mr. Nguyen Van Ty, Principal of Huong Viet Primary and Secondary School (Huong Hoa District, Quang Tri).

Share with PV Intellectual people the morning of October 27, Ms Nguyen Thi Thuy Phung, Vice Principal of the school, said Huong Viet School is about 1 km from the Vietnam-Laos border.

Due to the thick layer of mud, the teachers were unable to clean it up, the school asked the border guard at the Huong Lap Border Guard Station and the machines to help clean and clean, but it still wasn’t much.

“The amount of mud flooded is too great, in the yard more than half a meter flooded. If we clean in the schoolyard, the mud from the main road will continue to enter.

You may have to wait for the mud to clear up throughout the commune to “loosen” the mud from the school, “Phung said.

Mud, rotten wood and trash flooded the school

According to Ms. Phung, 2 days ago, in order to enter the school and understand the situation, the vice principal, the principal, and some teachers had to leave Quang Binh.

Teachers have to take a detour, climb a pass, and wade through streams; it takes almost 8 hours to get to school.

“Normally, I go to school for about 45 minutes, but yesterday, because we went up the pass and waded the creek through the roundabout, it took us almost 8 hours to get there,” Phung said.

This assistant principal reported, I have been in charge of this school for 2 years. According to some local residents, this was the first time the school had been flooded so badly.

Currently the whole school has 280 students / 5 classes. 100% of the students here are children of the Van Kieu ethnic minority whose life is very difficult.

If the school mud is cleaned up, the mud from the main road keeps coming in, so we have to wait for the whole commune to clean up to “release” all the mud from the school.

To encourage students to come to class every day, the teachers worked very hard. Now that the floods are causing the school to collapse, it is even more difficult for the children to return to school after the flood.

“With a lot of mud flooding the entire commune as at present, the school will gradually try to overcome it, but it is not known when the students can return to school,” Ms Phung said.

It is known that there are dozens of schools in Quang Tri Province that still cannot return students to school because the classrooms are covered in mud.

In Huong Hoa District alone, there are 13 schools with almost 5,000 students.
