Phu Quoc established town

The Standing Committee of the National Assembly approved the establishment of Phu Quoc Town, Kien Giang Province, on the afternoon of December 9.

Phu Quoc Town was established on the basis of the entire natural area and population of 179,480 inhabitants of Phu Quoc District today, making it the first island town in Vietnam.

Going to the city, Phu Quoc established Duong Dong District according to the area and the population of 60,415 inhabitants of Duong Dong City; establish An Thoi district according to the area and population of 4,610 people of Hon Thom commune plus an area and the population of 37,485 people of An Thoi city.

According to the government report, Phu Quoc is covered by a long coastline with beautiful unspoiled beaches, potential fishing grounds and deep waters that facilitate tourism, fishing and port system development. After 15 years of construction and development, Phu Quoc’s economy always achieves a high and stable growth rate.

In 2019, Phu Quoc welcomes more than 3 million domestic and foreign tourists. Along with economic development, the infrastructure system is invested with a large-scale, modern, synchronous urban space, gradually forming in the area.

Duong Dong Town and An Thoi Town are two urban centers in Phu Quoc District. Duong Dong City plays a role as an economic, political, cultural and social center; A city of Thoi is the most important port traffic center of the district.

Phu Quoc Town has 9 administrative units at the communal level, including: Duong Dong District, An Thoi District, and 7 communes: Ham Ninh, Duong To, Ganh Dau, Bai Thom, Cua Duong, Cua Can, Tho Chau.
