At 8:00 p.m. on October 26, people left the block, the Nam Son (Hanoi) landfill reopened traffic after three days of delay.

The move took place after a meeting of the district authorities in Soc Son with the people of the Nam Son and Hong Ky communes that afternoon.

Nguyen Ngoc Oanh, vice chairman of Nam Son commune, said the city announced that it will resolve the recommendations of the people of the two communes. People have come home, cars can go in and out of both doors to bring trash to Nam Son.

In recent days, the Hanoi Construction Department divided the garbage stream across districts to the Xuan Son (Son Tay) landfill, organized a temporary site at the Cau Dien branch and temporarily stored it in the vehicle. However, many places in the garbage area are congested and piled up along the highway.

The Hanoi Urban Environment Company (Urenco) estimates that the total amount of garbage left in the city is more than 10,000 tons.

Earlier in the evening on October 23, the Nam Son landfill was blocked by people in the two communes of Nam Son and Hong Ky, due to frustration over contamination in recent days, especially in the area of Village 2 (Hong Ky commune); slow ground clearance for a 500 m radius area; We have not yet addressed a series of policies for people affected by the complex such as health insurance, drinking water supply …

On the afternoon of October 25, the secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Vuong Dinh Hue, called a meeting of department leaders, saying that the cause of the Soc Son waste treatment complex problem was mainly subjective, in which the units function “is not really enthusiastic, and the situation of pushing responsibility, coordination is not effective.”

He asked the Party Committee of the City People’s Committee to lead the careful review of the petition, respond in the spirit of resolving as much as possible for the benefit of the people within the framework of the city’s laws and regulations. ” it is more beneficial for the people is not to allow the parentheses to be hooked intentionally for political gain. “

Built in 1999, the Nam Son Waste Treatment Complex, Soc Son District, covers more than 157 hectares, divided into two phases. The southern area of 36 hectares includes 6 cells, in operation since 2015, with a capacity of almost 5 million cubic meters of waste. By mid-2019, all cells are full, the Hanoi People’s Committee allows the renovation and expansion of 2 more cells and takes advantage of the distance between the old cells to increase capacity.

Meanwhile, the northern part of phase 2 covers an area of 37 hectares, including two burial cells with a capacity of 1.9 million cubic meters. From 2015 until now, construction has not been completed due to site cleanup issues. Currently, Nam Son receives around 5,000 tons of garbage every day from 12 districts and 5 districts of the city.

Within a radius of 500 m from the Nam Son landfill fence, there are more than 2,000 households subject to relocation, the total area is about 396 ha, including agricultural land and residential land.
