A passenger used a paper lighter on flight VN243 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of November 2.

According to information from Vietnam Airlines, on flight VN243 scheduled to depart at 8:00 am on November 2, when taking off, the flight attendant discovered a middle-aged passenger using lighters to burn tissue at the scene. The flight crew returned the aircraft to the terminal, reported the incident, and handed over the aforementioned passengers to the port authority and airport security for handling in accordance with regulations. Flight VN243 took off again at 9 am the same day, one hour late.

Tran Hoai Phuong, director of the North Airport Authority, said that the type of lighters a passenger carried on board the VN243 complied with regulations, but the lighter behavior of the passenger threatened aviation safety. According to the regulations of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration, passengers can carry a small lighter on the plane with hand luggage, which does not contain non-permeable liquid fuel (not liquefied gas).
