On the morning of December 5, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Minister of Health, chaired the meeting to report on the research and production of the Covid-19 vaccine in the country.

So far, Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers in Vietnam are making efforts to accelerate the progress of the research implementation, towards preclinical testing. Three production units, including IVAC, VABIOTECH and NANOGEN, have completed the laboratory-scale production process and are currently evaluating the safety and immunity of the vaccines in animals. NANOGEN was only prepared to go into a phase 1 clinical trial.

At the meeting, experts and manufacturers discussed the progress of the implementation of vaccine production projects, as well as the difficulties and problems in the implementation process and the solutions for the next period.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long emphasized the role and importance of Covid-19 vaccine research and production. The Ministry of Health has proactively promoted vaccine research and production activities in the country and, at the same time, has strengthened cooperation, exchange and negotiation with manufacturing units around the world to promptly access sources of vaccines for vaccination service and prevention of needs in the country.

Minister Nguyen Thanh Long also called on national vaccine production units to accelerate progress to soon conduct clinical trials. Consequently, on December 10, NANOGEN in coordination with the Military Medical Academy will officially recruit volunteers to participate in the first phase of the Vietnam Covid-19 vaccine trial.

“After 1 week, the first trial vaccination will take place. At the same time, stakeholders should prepare to be ready for phase 2 of the clinical trial immediately, not to finish the first phase. We need to be proactive in the stages to get vaccinated as soon as possible, ”Minister Nguyen Thanh Long asked.

At the meeting, the Minister of Health expressed supportive views, creating favorable conditions for vaccine production units, including minimizing administrative procedures and streamlining registration. , product licenses. The Ministry of Health will inform the Prime Minister of the investment policy for vaccine production units and will coordinate with relevant agencies to help the units access capital for vaccine research and production.

For the other producer, POLIVAC, Minister Nguyen Thanh Long asked the unit to continue researching and producing the Covid-19 vaccine while continuing to work closely with Russia and actively contact. with China to access vaccines from these countries.

For the units dependent on the Ministry of Health, the Minister will direct the units according to the assigned functions and tasks, urgently promote the national vaccine production process, and negotiate and reach an agreement with the production units. to export from abroad, so that Vietnam can soon get the Covid-19 vaccine.
