North Korea and the underworld trade and weapons manufacturing

The film follows the course of a group of amateur investigators over the years, ensnaring the people of Pyongyang in the sale of fake weapons.

During the three-year investigation of travel from Denmark to Uganda and North Korea, the group filmed, sometimes in secret, sometimes in public, scenes of North Korean officials discussing how to circumvent the United Nations ban on arms sales.

The Mole is the product of Danish film producer Mads Brügger. He said he organized a very elaborate three-year campaign to learn how North Korea managed to outperform the international community.

Hugh Griffiths, co-coordinator of the United Nations Committee of Experts on North Korea for 2014-2019, said the revelations of the film were “very credible.”

“This documentary is the most serious image loss for President Kim Jong-un that we have ever seen,” Griffiths said. “The fact that the film seems amateur does not mean that there is no sale of arms in exchange for foreign currency. The content of the film is very similar to what we already know.”

“The Mole” is a BBC documentary produced by four European media outlets.
