November 13, reporter Online youth Back in the National Park (National Park), Phuoc Binh visited the herds of “skinny and naked” gaurs, which saddened many people more than a month ago. And happily, the 11 gaurs are quickly regaining their health, fatter than in September 2020 when the media reported on the decline of the cow herd.
The whole herd gets fatter, the best cows appear
At first glance it can be seen that there are not cows as sick and inert as before, especially the head bull and some bulls recover quite quickly, the body gradually appears with corn tumors.
The cows are also quite “hyperactive”, when meeting strangers, they have shown wild characteristics like bulls, the father sobs, presses the horns … he told us to stay away from the edge of the barn.
According to Linh, these are wild characteristics that at the time of starvation, the entire cow herd does not display. “But now he’s healthy enough, a lot of kids are ‘excited’ all day, chasing each other and ready to ‘fight’ when strangers are present,” Linh said.

He added that Gaur’s herd also divided the hierarchy very clearly when the first half-breed cow appeared, which was the largest and strongest. When this cow has not eaten, most of the other cows in the barn do not dare to eat and the 5 cows in the herd are under the “control” of the first cross cow.
Exchange with Online youth, Mr. Nguyen Cong Van, Director of Phuoc Binh National Park, said that after being transferred to care for the mixed-breed herd since October 5, Phuoc Binh National Park changed the best diet for this herd. Currently, a crossbred cow is eating 1.5 kg of refined feed, 30 kg of biomass maize and 10 kg of fresh grass.

The 9/11 mongrels are recovering very well, the other two can be quite important when transferred, now they have recovered better, they are not too thin and are currently receiving more special care with 2 – 2.5 kg of refined food a day, and add molasses mixed with salt water to increase vitality.

The new herd space will be almost 4 hectares wide.
According to the director of the Phuoc Binh National Park, the Gaur herds are recovering well, but this is only the first step, to develop closer to the natural features, there will be a lot to do.
Currently, the Ninh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee has agreed to the policy of establishing a project to care for, protect and develop the cow herd in the next 5 years with an estimated budget of around 2.5 billion VND, the National Park Phuoc Binh is building the project.
Mr. Van said not only for the crossbred gaurs to eat enough nutrients, but also to create a habitat for the cows. Therefore, Phuoc Binh National Park requested the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden to plan the relocation of 11 guards to a new location in the park’s botanical garden.

There will be a better system of stables, with 1 hectare of pasture, and at the same time an additional 3 hectares of adjacent forest will be reserved for the “territory” of the crossed cows.
With a space closer to nature than a closed barn system like many years ago, Phuoc Binh National Park expects the herd of cows to display many natural wild characteristics and develop better than before.
