The Taiwanese army announced on November 19 the detection of strange signals, most likely from the F-16 fighter crashed 2 days earlier.
Taiwan has contracted with a private company to participate in the search and rescue of the remains.
Taiwan’s defense official, Yen De-fa, said on November 19 that search efforts were focused on the strange signal source, about 16.7 kilometers from the island of Taiwan.
Colonel Chiang Cheng-chih, direct pilot of the F-16 fighter, took off from Hualien at 6 pm (local time) on November 17. The plane disappeared from radar screens in just 2 minutes.
The Taiwanese patrol boats received a strange signal at 9:00 am This is an important clue in the attempt to find the dead plane and the missing pilot.
Responding to the cause of the plane crash, Yan said the first step that can be completed is due to the pilot’s disorientation. “We do not rule out this possibility, after evaluating weather conditions, aircraft communications and aircraft performance,” Yan said.
When flying at night, pilots may lose the ability to recognize the altitude of the aircraft, the speed of the aircraft, and other related factors. However, Mr. Yan emphasized that this is not the final conclusion and that a comprehensive investigation is still pending.
Taiwan is mobilizing a large number of reconnaissance aircraft, warships trying to find the crashed plane, even having hired a private company to rescue the plane. “The dive boat of the private company is already in the port of Hualien,” revealed Yan.
Taiwanese officials are not ruling out the possibility of the plane crashing when falling into the sea, so there are many signals coming from different parts of the plane.
In the short term, the submersible will follow from the first signal, at a depth of about 900 meters.
Since the November 17 incident, Taiwan has banned all 150 flights of US F-16s, re-evaluating the entire pilot training and maintenance process.
