On “Good Morning America” (GMA), Ms. Jasmine Martin said she discovered an abnormality in her eyes on 7-30. Before that, the Sariyah girl’s eyes appeared as “a small bright spot” and grew larger.
Martin immediately took a photo of his daughter posted on Facebook to ask for advice. Seeing many people comment that it could be CancerMiss Martin immediately took her to see a pediatrician. The doctor told a Knoxville, Tennessee mother that she had nothing to worry about, but her mother’s premonition made Martin not believe.
“It took me weeks to make an appointment with an ophthalmologist, so I sent a photo to a friend who worked at the hospital for my friend to show the doctor. Sariyah was transferred to St. Jude Hospital that night.” – Ms. Martin told the GMA program.

The 17-month-old girl’s fight against cancer and her family has had continually unpredictable developments. Although baby Sariyah was discharged from the hospital at the end of September, Martin’s family couldn’t help but worry when a small bright spot in her left eye reappeared despite being laser treatment. At the same time, the bulge in the baby’s right eye, where the largest bright spot is, is slowly shrinking.
In the latest Instagram update, Ms Martin wrote: “We are just starting treatment, but these days are too exhausting because you never know what is going to happen. It is difficult and scary. The possibilities are now an endless war.
However, Ms. Martin said that baby Sariyah was very happy. Although the illness made her tired and she had a fever, she played with her siblings while in the hospital and during chemotherapy. The mother shared how touched she was that her friends and neighbors worked together to help her family through this difficult time. “This world there are too many good people“- said Miss Martin to the GMA with emotion.
She hopes that sharing the story of Sariyah’s baby on social media will encourage mothers to follow their own hunch on issues related to their children’s health. “The mother is the one who best understands” – he said.
