The Vietnamese are the only Asian group in the United States that would favor Trump more than Biden in the upcoming presidential election, according to a poll of Asian groups.

Asian-American and Pacific Islander (APIA Vote), Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI Data) Elections, and Promotion of Asian-American Justice (AAJC) announced on 9/15 the results of the presidential election poll of the United States next November with 1,569 Asian-American voters.

The survey was conducted from July 4 to September 10, in English, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese, with people of Chinese, Indian, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese and Filipino origin.

The results show that Asians are very excited about the upcoming November vote and 54% of them say they are much more excited this time than in previous elections. 54% of Asian Americans polled plan to vote for Democratic candidate Joe Biden, while only 30% support incumbent President Donald Trump.

Biden is preferred in all groups except Vietnamese origin. Among Vietnamese voters registered to vote, the rate of support for Trump is 48%, while for Biden it is 36%. Indians are the group most inclined to Biden, with 65% in favor of the Democratic candidate.

14% of voters of Asian descent, mostly of Chinese descent, have yet to decide who to vote for.

The majority of voters of Asian descent also said they would support the Democratic candidate in the US Senate and House of Representatives elections. However, once again the Vietnamese group broke out of this trend with a higher rate of support for Republican candidates.. They are the only Asian group in the poll to lean Republicans at 38% compared to Democrats at 23%, 34% identifying as nonpartisan.

Asians are the fastest growing ethnic group in the US and the group of voters who took the record in the 2018 midterm elections. They form a major bloc in many battlefield states, including Arizona, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. They have the ability to influence parliamentary careers in Southern California, Texas, and New Jersey, among other states.

Asians tend to be progressive, support undocumented immigrants to become American citizens, advocate for environmental protection, gun control, and act assertively. They believe that Democrats handle most issues better than Republicans, with the exception of taxes, jobs, and the economy.

Although excited about next November’s elections, Asian Americans also expressed concern about the possibility of meddling in the voting results. Additionally, nearly half were concerned about health and safety by voting directly at the midpoint of the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of them are inclined to vote by mail or absentee ballot.

However, the parties have not really exploited the full force of this potential group of voters. The survey found that about half of the respondents were never affiliated with any party. With a large proportion of unregistered voters, reaching this group of Asians will be crucial.
