The day Ms. Nam left her hometown Dai Loc District (Quang Nam) when she was twenty years old, the day she returned, her hair was pale. Anyway, the day of late return is also the boundless happiness of blood love.
When I called to inform her that I had found her family, she cried a lot when she found out that her parents and siblings had died. The biggest consolation is that the two paternal younger siblings are still busy searching.
UP QUOC BAO
The separation on the pier that year
“Let’s go home, sister” – said Mr. Dien and then accompanied his nephews to take her to the car. To avoid being surprised by the change, Mr. Dien kindly told his sister that Phu An village still had its name, but the day he left, Loc Quy commune was changed to Dai Thang commune. (Dai Loc district, Quang Nam).
“The boat station is not Dien yet?” – Ms. Nam asked. “Yes, you have a sister” – Mr. Dien said in a low voice, then the tears ran once more. He returned a lot of affection, the farewell to the dock that year took more than 60 years to meet again.
Mr. Dien recalled that in 1961, he was only 6 years old, his sister took a child from Hoi An. At that time, the new family or Ms. Nam was married to the soldier on the other side of the front, while all the family was revolutionary. Perhaps that is why she kept her marriage a secret until the day she gave birth.
Back home with her mother for a while, Ms. Nam returned to carry her baby with her husband.
The war of those years was fierce. In the morning of 1961, the whole family went to the pier to see Ms. Nam off.
“I remember waiting a long time for the boat, then waiting for the wind. At that time, people sailed, leaning on the wind to go down the Thu Bon stream to the town of Vinh Dien. There was National Highway 1A, Ms. Nam got in the car and drove into town. ” Chau O village, Binh Son district, Quang Ngai. Her husband Le Van Lam is there “- said Mr. Dien.
A boy named Sơn, 1 year old, cried on the pier that year, he is now 62 years old. Looking at her, Mr. Dien said that time was too cruel, at this moment he looked at her with an old body but felt sorry.
Later, Mr. Dien said that after saying goodbye at the pier, he and his mother went to the army camp in Chau O city to take care of their grandchildren. A few months later, the mother and daughter returned to their hometown, that was the last time Mr. Dien met Ms. Nam.
I’m still looking for
The car took Ms. Nam to Phu An village, family members burst into tears, everyone cried.
Mr. Vu Tan Dat (72 years old), Ms. Nam’s younger brother, ran to her and lovingly blamed her: “Whatever you go, you will go and pray to Ms. Nam. After decades, I did not return. Now my parents passed away. Eight brothers and sisters now it’s just me and the nun, “said Mr. Dat and pointed at Mr. Dien.
Ms. Nam cried, Mr. Lam cried too. His three children also shed tears. Burning incense on her parents’ altar, Ms. Nam nearly collapsed. Deep in her heart, feelings were difficult to express.
Ms. Nam said that after leaving her family, she and her husband became involved in the war. Originally, Mr. Lam was arrested, so he was very upset with the war. To find peace for his wife and children, he decided to hide from the soldiers with his wife, who were lost in the city of Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa). In 1968, Mr. Lam was arrested for desertion, went to a military court, and was imprisoned.
Upon release from prison, Mr. Lam continued to hold a gun, for which he shot himself in the finger that he used to pull the trigger and shot himself in the leg.
“Since leaving the army, the couple hugged their children and wandered through the southern provinces. Eventually, the couple returned to their husband’s hometown of Bac Lieu. They had nine more children and then went to raise their children, so hard So I couldn’t think of the country ”- said Ms. Nam.
The years when she and her husband fled the war, the mother in the field still looked forward to her children. When he was a teenager, Dien used to go to Saigon, go everywhere looking for her, then ask the radio to search, but then he took a loss.
The grieving mother turned to the priest to see if her son was still alive. The teacher said that Ms. Nam had passed away, so she went to set up an altar to worship her son.
“The altar does not have a photo, nor does she know the date of death, so having a death anniversary is always worshiping Nam,” Dien said. But that mother, although she installed an altar for her son, still does not believe in me for the rest of her life. Before dying, her greatest wish was to find her son.
Later, when the program “As if there was never a separation” was born, rediscovering once again the hope of finding her sisters Dien and Mr. Dat. The first time I submitted the information, the search team announced that they could not find it.
Mr. Dien was a reporter, so thanks to his relationships, he sought more information about the unit Mr. Lam was stationed in, his time in the military … And once again they sent the program “As if never there would be a separation. ” Then one more disappointment!
“At that time, my brothers and sisters thought that Nam had passed away, but my blood and blood kept urging me to find,” said Mr. Dien.
Ms. Nam was crying and choking, burning incense on the altar of her parents and siblings who died after 60 years apart.
Thirsty roots
On the day Ms. Nam said goodbye to her family, the cluster of trees sprouted on the ground. The day he returned, the tree was dead for a year. That cluster tree was the moment he left. The pier is the place where every time he misses her, Mr. Dien stands up crying. In her mind, it seemed like a slow motion video of the silhouette of her holding her baby disappearing under a candle.
Ms. Nam was also like that, when the flood passed, the children and grandchildren were calm, the desire for roots arose. He wanted to find his homeland, but for decades he had not left Ngan Ke Village, Ninh Quoi Commune, Hong Dan District, Bac Lieu. The way back to his hometown is deep. Increasing old age continues to block the desire to find the source.
That feeling, Ms. Nam’s children understand. The children replaced Ms. Nam in search of the source.
Mr. Le Quoc Bao (27 years old, Nam’s grandson) recounted his fortunate journey: “I am in the police service, so when I get a little information from her, I think I should go to the district police. Dai Loc , it will be easier to find from here, what worries me the most is that my grandmother’s family has moved to another place.
Fortunately, my great-grandmother was a heroic Vietnamese mother, a family of martyrs, so everyone knew a lot. When the Dai Thang commune police are searched, there is a relative working here, so the search is very fast, “Bao said.
The roots, the guts, those invisible cables are finally found after 60 years of separation. Mr. Dien and Mr. Dat organize excursions for his wife and sister. The two younger brothers wanted to compensate their sister for the disadvantages of distance. The affectionate family warmth of those who lead their lives intact …
Quang noodle bowl after 60 years
A simple reunion party with two specialties of the Quang Nam people are Quang noodles and duck duck. Mr. Dat made his own sister a delicious bowl of Quang noodles. Seeing her eat only one tooth in her mouth, Mr. Dat smiled and his eyes were red.
“After 60 years, I will eat the Quang noodle dish again. It will take a long time” – said Mr. Dat, looking at her excitedly. Ms. Nam’s children also smile happily. As for Mr. Bao, finding a source for his grandmother removed the invisible chain that bound his life for decades.
