PeruAmid the smoke of the incense, flowers and photos of Trump and Biden, shamans perform a ritual to predict the results of the US presidential election.

However, they cannot agree on who will be the winner.

Singing and blowing a traditional shell musical instrument from the Andes, shamans in colorful costumes shout “Pachamama,” which means “homeland,” so that the American vote can be held in a peaceful way, without attacks or witchcraft between opponents.

In a fuzzy room in an old building in the center of the capital Lima, the magician Ana María Simeón said she was leaning towards the Democratic candidate Biden.

“That’s why we are cleaning it. We see them attacking it with magic, with a black doll, a voodoo doll, they are covering it in darkness to eliminate it,” Simeon said, referring to the mannequin that is often used in black magic, with pierced needles .

During the ritual, shamans wear poncho robes, rubbing medicinal plants, fruits, and even a live snake on a photo of Biden and Trump.

According to a Reuters / Ipsos poll on Sept. 16, Biden is 9 percentage points ahead of Trump, with 50% of potential voters expected to vote for the Democratic candidate, while 41% will favor Trump.

“Hopefully Mr. Trump has good sources of energy,” said magician Pablo Torres, who carried a snake on his shoulder, after spraying a strange liquid from his mouth on the photo of Trump.

“Why? Because he deserves it, he needs good energy from his fans,” Torres added. “We are supporters of this man. He will win, he is a winner.”
