The two defendants brought to trial are Ho Van Khoa (29 years old, from Thai Phu Village, Mai Dinh Commune, Soc Son District, Hanoi City) and La Van Linh (22 years old, from Village 6, Ba Trai Commune, District. Ba Vi, Hanoi City).
On the basis of the documents and testimony of the defendants in court, the Thanh Mien District People’s Court sentenced Ho Van Khoa to 39 months in prison, including 30 months for “disturbing public order” and 9 months in prison for “intentionally damaging property.”
Defendant La Van Linh received 30 months in prison, including 24 months in prison for “disturbing public order” and 6 months in prison for “intentionally damaging property”.
According to the indictment, Ho Van Khoa contradicted Duong Minh Tuyen (35 years old, resident in Zone 5, Tien An neighborhood, Bac Ninh city) on social media. On January 4, Tuyen returned to the housewarming party of an acquaintance in Doan Tung Commune, Thanh Mien District.
Here, Tuyen didn’t see Khoa arrive on schedule, so he went to Facebook to livestream his appointment to settle. Then Khoa brought a gun to shoot bullets and 5 bullets to take a taxi from Hanoi to Hai Duong.
Upon reaching Hai Duong, Khoa telephoned La Van Linh to tell her to take a motorcycle from Hanoi to Thanh Mien district to pick up Khoa and fire a warning shot at Tuyen. Around 9:30 pm on the same day, Linh took Khoa by motorcycle to a karaoke bar in Thanh Mien city when he discovered that Tuyen’s car was parked nearby, so Khoa fired 3 bullets at the car.
As a result, the car was damaged in places but did not cause human casualties. Hai Duong Province Police later identified and summoned La Van Linh to work.
After 14 days in hiding, Ho Van Khoa was handed over by relatives to the Hanoi Police Economic Police Department. The inspection results determined that Tuyen’s car was damaged and he had a loss of approximately VND 2.5 million.
Previously, on March 25, 2014, Ho Van Khoa was sentenced to 14 months in prison by the Soc Son District People’s Court in Hanoi City for assault on property.
