Israel’s N12 news site reported on November 28 that Israeli embassies abroad are on high alert after the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in Iran.

Iranian authorities announced that Fakhrizadeh was ambushed by a gunman near Tehran on November 27.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered Iranian officials to track down the perpetrator and those responsible for this action.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced during a televised cabinet meeting that Iran would respond appropriately and hinted that Israel was behind the incident.

In 2018, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu identified Fakhrizadeh as the supervisor of a canceled nuclear weapons development project in Iran. According to Reuters, Israeli authorities declined to comment on the murder.
At least four Iranian scientists were killed between 2010 and 2012, which Tehran said were part of an assassination plot to sabotage the country’s nuclear power program. Iran has long denied the accusation of pursuing nuclear weapons, stating that its nuclear program is only peaceful.
