“The new governmental apparatus needs to do something new, not sit back and solve the old story of Thu Thiem New Urban Area or High-Tech Park because it is unlikely that the new apparatus has understood and solved the urgent problems of people,” Ms. Tam acknowledged and suggested that the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council should monitor the progress of the implementation of the Government Inspectorate’s resolutions and conclusions regarding these two critical points.

Finally, regarding the name of the new city when it was established, Ms. Tam said that it is necessary to listen to the opinions of more people about other names, if it is decided to take the city name of Thu Duc, it is necessary to explain to create the Consensus.

Upon receiving comments from delegates, Vice President Le Thanh Liem said that if approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee will complete the project and send it to the Ministry of the Interior. The Ministry of the Interior then held an inter-ministerial assessment conference together with the Ministry of Justice, on that basis, to consult the Government. The Government will then report to the National Assembly for evaluation before presenting it to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly for approval.

If approved, Ho Chi Minh City would be reduced from 24 districts to 16 districts, 5 districts, 1 city and reduced from 322 districts, communes and towns to 312 districts, communes and towns.

The list of districts subject to merger includes: P. An Khanh and Thu Thiem merged into Thu Thiem, Binh Khanh and Binh An to become P. An Khanh (District 2); P.6, P.7 and P.8 become P.Vo Thi Sau (District 3); P.2 and P.5 become P.2, P.12 and P.13 become P.13 (Q.4); P.12 and P.15 become P.12 (Q.5); P.2 and P.3 become P.2 (Q.10); P.11 and P.12 become P.11, P.13 and P.14 become P.13 (Phu Nhuan district).
