8 family members lost after half a day in the field

The thick fog and rain in the forest made the road to Tra Leng (Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam Province) more difficult. Noc Ong Luc is now just mud mixed with rocks and trees. Almost two days ago, Mr. Ho Van De (77 years old, a resident of Village 1, Tra Leng commune) sat in a daze under the side of the camp, temporarily built by the scene of the landslide, waiting to search for relatives missing.

Eight of the more than 50 people in the accident were children and grandchildren of Mr. De. The old man was small, so much so, even in a sore sitting position, he looked at the houses that were “lost” under the mud, causing many they couldn’t stop.

On the day the landslide occurred, Mr. De was in the field, it was raining heavily that day. An explosion echoed in the mountains and forests, when Mr. De knew something was wrong.

“The land of Tra Leng has been so peaceful for many generations, there was such a strange history,” De recalled.

He ran home. Arriving alone, people panicked and fled the rubble, announcing that 11 homes, including his family, had already been buried by the mud. The father, the damn grandfather, is still sitting by the ruins, with a little hope that his family has made it.

At 10:30 a.m. on October 30, the rescue team found a young body. The elderly father, who heard that, closed a corner, tears running down his austere old face. The victim, Ho Van Hung (Mr. De’s son) was found buried under a pile of wood and mud.

“All dead, all my children are dead, honey. Eight of them in total, but only two have been found. The father is old, but you died soon, my daughter ”, said the cry of Mr. De as someone resentful, lost by thousands.

At the top of the roof of Ong Luc, a long stretch of mountain runs directly into the village, the outside forms a long and deep trench that extends directly into the stream. Along the route to the landslide area, century-old trees over meters in diameter, giant boulders were swept across the road long enough to see how fragile the people were before the disaster.

Mother bought milk, where are you?

It has been 2 days, mourning, the gloomy atmosphere enveloped the people of Tra Leng. The people of M’Nong have never experienced such pain. Under the mud, Ms. Ho Thi Hoa (a resident of Village 1, Tra Leng Commune) hoarsely shouted the names of her parents, her 6-year-old sister, and her 4-year-old son.

Family life is inherently difficult, Ms. Hoa went to Tam Ky City (Quang Nam Province) to frantically earn a living, accumulating a lot of money that she immediately sent to her parents and bought milk for her son. News of hunger came in, he rushed home, but encountered a landslide. Pull the car down the 8km forest road to get back home, there is nothing else.

“Mom bought milk, where do you come from?” It is Hoa’s painful call that tormented many people in the place.

After doing the thinking work, this morning (October 30), Mr. Ho Van Viet (Nam Tra My High School teacher) took 6 students home. In this group, 4 students had a loved one in the landslide. Le Thanh Vu, the son of Tra Leng commune secretary Le Hoang Viet, leaned toward the master, his young face still showing panic.

Vu said he was in partial boarding school, before the storm day, his father called to be safe at school and his parents were fine at home. However, when Vu returned today, only his mother was left, he could no longer see him!

Holding every piece of land at the scene, Ms. Le Thi Duyen (Mr. Le Hoang Viet’s sister) was still suffering from her brother’s advice before the accident. Before the storm, Mr. Viet came to each house to knock on the door and warn people to avoid the storm. Also that afternoon, he also called his sister to advise him little by little. But after the storm, it was he who disappeared.
