Hanoi created 14 teams to catch dogs freely

To prevent rabies, the Ba Dinh district (Hanoi) formed a team to free-trapping dogs in 14 rooms with more than 100 members.

On October 4, the head of the Ba Dinh District Veterinary Station said that the dog trapping team began operating two weeks ago in accordance with the District People’s Committee’s plan to build a safe area for rabies.

“Our main purpose is to mobilize people so that they do not let cats and dogs roam free, to guarantee the safety of the community. The teams don’t put too much emphasis on arresting and punishing, ”said the head of the Ba Dinh District Veterinary Station. He said that after two weeks of operation, the teams captured 5 dogs, fined 3 owners with the amount of 4.5 million VND.

The captured poultry dogs will be taken to the office of the district People’s Committee, after 48 hours of storage, if no owner comes to receive them, they will be delivered to the Hanoi Animal Center or Agricultural Academy.

Ba Dinh is the second district in Hanoi that created a team to hunt dogs and keep them rabies free. Previously, at the end of 2018, Thanh Xuan District organized similar teams, but it no longer works regularly.

According to Government Decree 04/2020, the act of not wearing a dog’s muzzle or not chaining and keeping a dog, or not having anyone to guide the dog when taking a dog to public places is punishable by a fine of 1 to 2 million VND. People who defecate dogs and cats in public places are fined VND 100-300,000. Barnyard dogs captured 48 hours after they have not been claimed can go to animal rescue centers.
