Coach David Holoubek of the Czech Republic has called up 21 players to join the team, including Filip Nguyen. The 1992-born goalkeeper had confirmed that he would play for the Czech Republic, writing: “I received the news that I could represent the Czech team. After a family reunion, I decided to take this opportunity.
“I have been a Vietnamese citizen for more than 3 years and I cannot wait to continue. I think I will not have the opportunity to play for the Vietnamese team anymore. I hope the fans understand it and I thank you for your support. Please help me.”
Shortly after, Filip Nguyen met with the Czech national team to prepare for the match against Scotland in the Nations League. However, the 27-year-old goalkeeper did not have the opportunity to start, instead, the goalkeeper with the Mandous number 23 jersey is the one trusted.

In the game against Scotland, Pesek opened the scoring for the Czech Republic just in the 11th minute after breaking the offside trap and finishing the cross corner to defeat the Scottish goalkeeper. However, until the 27th minute, Filip Nguyen’s team let the rival draw. Lyndon Dykes put his name on the score sheet after a shot from close range.
In the 52nd minute Malinsky fouled Robertson in the penalty area and the referee gave Scotland 11m. On the penalty spot Ryan Christie made it 2-1. In the remaining minutes, the Czech Republic tried but could not find the tie, thus losing 1-2.
