Germany – Taiwan Relations: New Story | The world

[ad_1]

The unprecedented occurrence of what happened between Taiwan and Germany is an example, and that made Beijing unhappy.

Until now, Taiwan is considered one of the successful locations for Covid-19, while Germany is still among the top epidemic areas. Germany ordered and was supplied by mainland China, while Taiwan shipped one million masks to Germany.

Germany has no official diplomatic relations with Taiwan. So far, no member of the German government has visited Taiwan or exchanged official correspondence with the Taipei government.

It can be seen that Germany has a “one China” policy approach in line with understanding and responding to relevant Beijing requirements. But recently, German Health Minister Jens Spahn sent a letter to the Taiwan government. The content of the letter is just a thank you to the German government for Taiwan’s gesture, but the move has new diplomatic and political implications.

The new story has not fundamentally changed the relationship between Germany and Taiwan, but it is a fragile sign of the possibility that it may start differently.
