Austrian media reported that coach Alfred Riedl passed away at age 71 from cancer
Some sad news has just reached Vietnamese football when Alfred Riedl, the Austrian military leader who led the Vietnamese team three times in 1998-2000, 2003-2004 and 2005-2007, passed away. on September 8, at the age of 71.
Coach Riedl has long been in charge of the Vietnam team and is loved by Vietnamese fans as another colleague (who also has a long time with Vietnamese football), Mr. Henrique Calisto.
Coach Riedl had three spells as coach of Vietnam in the years 1998-2000; 2003-2004 and 2005-2007. Alternatively, he also managed the Khatoco Khanh Hoa clubs in 2001 and the 2008-2009 season with the Hai Phong team. However, at the club level, Mr. Riedl did not achieve anything outstanding. At the team level, Mr. Riedl helped the Vietnam team or the Vietnam U23 team to win the gold medal at the 1999, 2003, 2005 SEA Games and was runner-up in the 1998 Tiger Cup (the predecessor of the AFF Cup).
