Brian Pinker was vaccinated with Covid-19 at the age of 82
Brian Pinker, a dialysis patient, was the first person in the world to be vaccinated at Churchill Hospital (UK) at 7:30 am, 4/12 (local time).
Pinker, born and raised in Oxford, said the injection would help ensure his continued treatment. He hopes to celebrate his 48th wedding anniversary in February.
“I am delighted to receive the Covid-19 vaccine today and I am really proud that the vaccine was invented in Oxford,” Pinker said.
Nurse Sam Foster fired the shot. “It was a true privilege to receive the first AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine at Oxford’s Churchill Hospital, just a few hundred meters from where it was developed,” said Foster.
“We hope to vaccinate more patients and healthcare workers in the coming weeks. This will make a big difference for people who live, treat and work in hospitals and healthcare homes.
Professor Stephen Powis, director of the UK’s National Health Service, describes the delivery of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine as “a turning point in the path of escape from a pandemic.”
He continued: “We have been preparing for months for the largest immunization program in UK history. We have provided over 1 million Pfizer vaccines. Now we have AstraZeneca – Oxford ”.
According to Mr Powis, the UK intends to get vaccinated with tens of millions of doses between now and April, however this is a new drug so care is needed before getting vaccinated. The detailed plan will be clearer in the coming weeks.
