According to former Thu Cong player Vu Manh Hai, the displacement of the internal army of foreign strikers in the V-League also helps the defense of Vietnamese teams.

– Coach Park Hang-seo recently complained that foreign forwards take over the ability of domestic players, causing Vietnamese teams to lack excellent forwards. What do you think about this?

– Mr. Park complains like this, but not only he has this problem, but also the coaches of the previous team. Too many foreign forwards have passed since Vietnamese football started to go professional and, in my opinion, this is inevitable. Football always needs achievements, because with achievements there is money to invest in reverse to maintain and develop. They have to buy the right players, whose attacking positions tend to prioritize.

So is professional football, and not just Vietnam. The Premier League, the most popular tournament, also has many teams that do not use English forwards. Liverpool is an example, they have Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino, without using any national striker.

– Is it the club’s preference to buy foreign forwards because Vietnamese forwards are not good enough?

– Exactly. When there are no good people, coaches have to buy it. How can a team win without a good striker? Let’s take the Viettel club as an example, if there is no Bruno and Caique, how can they win? If there were good enough national strikers, they wouldn’t have hired strikers like that.

The foreign forwards take the rate of the national players, but the club benefits. These are two sides of the same problem. It would be good if they accepted our young forward, but that could directly affect their interests.

– How do you evaluate the viability when Mr. Park proposed to make the law that every club must use young forwards?

– I think Mr. Park’s plan is unreasonable. He is the coach of the national team so he is always concerned about the quality of the team, but the club’s coaches are also concerned about their teams. Mr. Park’s proposal was inconsistent with the interests of the club, affecting the investment of the team.

As I said, professional football needs money, if you want money you have to have achievements, and that is something we have to accept. If any team is interested in creating conditions for the young forwards, we are lucky to have good people.

In addition, the Coach Park proposal may affect the quality of the club’s performance, thereby reducing the quality of the entire championship. A team that does not have a good striker cannot score goals, and when the time comes to lose, their sponsor may flee.

– Besides the professional contribution to the clubs, what other benefits do the foreign soldiers have in the attack for the tournament?

– Foreign players appeared in Vietnam, raising the level of Vietnamese football. We also learn a lot from them, so there are very good defenders. The Hanoi club is an example. His defense is not a foreign soldier, but the kick is very good. Dinh Trong has been a “western hunter” for a long time, and now there is Bui Hoang Viet Anh. Some of the defensive pillars in Hanoi were injured, but the children who started were also very good. Foreign players come to Vietnam to help improve the quality of domestic players, contributing to progress. In my opinion, Mr. Park benefits from the foreign strikers.

– How is the march of internal defenders shown, in your opinion, specifically in Vietnamese teams?

– For a long time, we may be overly concerned with the issue of foreign forwards replacing domestic players, but ignoring the good and strong foreign forward has helped Vietnamese defenders to have a stressful environment. drastic, create a talented defender.

In the U22, U23 and national team tournaments with Mr. Park, Vietnam has always played very well, especially on defense. Mr. Park builds teams on a defensive basis, with the first play of not losing, then winning, and finally defending victory. I still remember a saying something like this: “To win, you must have a good striker, but if you want to protect victory, you must have a good defender.”

We have good forwards like Cong Phuong and Tien Linh. But without defenders like Dinh Trong, Que Ngoc Hai, who always have to deal with quality foreign forwards, how to preserve the advantage that the forwards create.

But it is better to have a good defender and a good striker. In your opinion, what is the solution to Mr. Park’s headache?

– Child training, in my opinion, is still the best option. In particular, you need to create a good environment for them by increasing the number of games in the year for young players.

If you want them to mature, a year should also let them play 30-40 matches in youth tournaments. If they go to a tournament, kick four or five games and then come back, they are ineffective, very difficult to grow.

Young tournaments should increase the number of matches before they can be perfected, from there we can discover the talent. When organizing the National U17 tournament, I used to think about how to get young players to play between 17 and 20 matches per tournament.

In Europe, in addition to the national championship, countries always have a parallel youth championship. Nhu Van Hau went to Holland, he was not allowed to play for the first team but also forged in the youth tournament. This is also a good solution to improve the quality of young players and find talent, in my opinion there should be a comprehensive plan from VFF, VPF and clubs, although not easy to implement.
