The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs said that according to the central mission, the layout of redundant cadres should be completed in 2021 to match economic efficiency and new job opportunities.

At the district level, Ho Chi Minh City merged District 2, District 9, and Thu Duc District to form a new administrative unit, called Thu Duc City, with a natural area of ​​211.56 km2 and a population of more than 1 million. people.

At the commune level, Ho Chi Minh City organized 19 neighborhoods into districts: 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, Phu Nhuan.

After the settlement, Ho Chi Minh City has not changed in terms of natural area and population size. The city will have 22 administrative units at the district level, including 16 districts, one city, five districts (minus three districts, an increase in one city below the city); there are 312 administrative units directly below the commune level, which include 249 districts, five cities, and 58 communes (in 10 districts).

Recently, Ho Chi Minh City has held consultations in concerted districts. The voter feedback gathering process has been seriously implemented, ensuring safety, savings, efficiency, democracy, as scheduled and in accordance with regulations. The results are published on the city portal.
