President Donald Trump is said to have told several of those advisers. According to The Hill, the above talk takes place in the context of the president considering a number of different scenarios for his future. Trump now faces an uphill battle: challenging the election result, which has leaned in favor of Biden.
The New York Times reported that, at a meeting at the White House on November 10, the president spoke with several advisers, many of whom told Trump the possibility of changing the outcome of the election. 2020 through legal campaigns in a number of states is extremely low.
“He knows it’s over,” a Trump adviser told the New York Times. Rather than agree to lose, however, Trump brought up one unpredictable scenario after another for his continued tenure in the White House as he thought about the future after the end of the presidency.
Information from interviews with advisers and people close to Trump shows that the president does not have a bigger strategy to continue denying election results in some key geographic war states.
Instead, he’s just trying to see how far he can lead the opposition to the election results and hopes to continue to receive Republican support. Trump’s re-election campaign has filed lawsuits in Michigan, Georgia and Pennsylvania over allegations of voter fraud.
Some advisers expect Trump to accept defeat before the weekend, but the vote count in Georgia may delay this.
