On the afternoon of November 24, the Phu Quoc District Police, Kien Giang Province, said that they had issued a decision to prosecute the accused and arrest Duong Quoc Nang (SN 1976; living in Duong Dong City, District of Phu Quoc) for investigation of forest destruction behavior.

According to initial information, since the end of 2009, Duong Quoc Nang went to Subzone 96 Ecological Restoration Subzones of Phu Quoc National Park adjacent to his plot to hire people to cut forest trees with a total area of more than 23 ha for culture. The Forest Protection Department of the Phu Quoc District National Park found out about it, made a search and asked Nang to pledge not to relapse.
However, in late 2018, Nang continued to hire people to come to the aforementioned plot of land to cut down forest trees and expand the area, and the authorities discovered and prevented it. At the time of inspection, authorities found that more than 12 hectares of forest land had been cleared.
From 2009 to February 11, 2020, functional departments determined that Nang had cleared more than 78 hectares of forest land. All the trees in the natural forest were cut down by Nang and collected in piles for burning.
