In recent days, public opinion in the city of Can Tho and the surrounding areas is frustrated by the University of South Can Tho forcing new students to pay money to buy trees to plant on campus.
Under the school’s Plan No. 14, all students enrolled in 2020 must pay money to buy trees. Students of old courses contribute voluntarily.

Mental movement … required
“A class has less than 30 students, students plant a tree, a class of 30 to less than 60 students, students plant two trees, a class has 60 to less than 110 students, students plant three trees. The value of each tree is three million dong, ”stated a plan from South Can Tho University.
When the plan was issued and implemented, many students and parents were upset that the school did not do it unreasonably. LTK students (who live in Hau Giang province) said that the tuition alone is seven million dong, and other expenses such as clothing, accommodation … they also have to cost quite a bit.
“When I got the notice that I had to pay 100,000 VND to buy trees, I disagreed, but still had to clench my stomach to shut down because I was afraid of being ‘noticed.’ 100,000 VND said a lot, not much, but I could eat rice for a few days. I don’t understand why the tuition is so high, but it also forces us to pay for more green trees, which is too ridiculous ”- said K.
Ms LTMP (who lives in Tra Vinh province, with a family member who is in the first year of school) is frustrated: “The school issuing those mandatory documents is not appropriate. If you want to plant green trees , you can write the document for them to do it. I have to pay my voluntary contributions, I can buy crops at the beginning of the school year. At the beginning of the school year, how much money do they have to pay, children who are far from home have to be done I charge for all kinds of expenses, but the school also pays for this extra green tree.
A Masterclass student shared: “I feel frustrated for the students receiving the notice of payment for the trees. Since I have a job, paying 100,000 VND is also better, but the children did not earn money. I called to ask the School Board, a teacher told me that the program was active but with a forced spirit. Is hard to understand “.
Contribute money to buy trees for syncing
Speaking to the PLO by phone, Mr. Nguyen Nhat Truong, Director of the Student Support Center and Secretary of South Can Tho University, confirmed that the school was forced to pay money to buy trees.
Mr. Truong reported that this tree planting activity is the seventh year that the school has organized to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, in response to the green, clean and beautiful school movement.
“Six times ago everything went very well, I have not listened to what the students reflect. This contribution is not only for the students, but also for the teachers, staff and teachers of the school every year to plant trees ”- information from Mr. Truong.
Also according to Mr. Truong, large trees with wide canopies, such as king areca and sesame sprouts, are often grown at the school. The price of such a tree is around VND 3 million, including maintenance and planting services. Mr. Truong also commented that at the current cost of living, the contribution of 100,000 VND / person is not too high.
“This money will run out for a day, but we will plant trees to last a lifetime, because when you plant trees, you will attach the class name to that tree and then take souvenir photos with the teachers” – Mr. Truong Award as more.
Through research, this new school year, Nam Can Tho University enrolls over 3,000 students and still is. Many students believe that the above income is unreasonable, the green tree belongs to the facilities, the school has to spend money to implement. In case you want to educate students to plant trees to protect the environment, you need to make a plan for students to contribute themselves according to their ability, or buy trees to plant.
(PLO) – Tuition rates for the 2020-2021 school year will be agreed depending on the actual situation in the regions and the COVID-19 epidemic.
