About 128 of the 777s with Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines will stop flying after an engine fire, forcing United Airlines jets to make an emergency landing.

This is the next big damage for Boeing after it had to stop flying the 737 series due to many accidents that killed hundreds of people. These include the Lion Air disaster that took place in March 2019 in Indonesia, which caused 346 deaths, and the Ethiopian Airlines crash in 2020.

“All 777s equipped with this engine have stopped flying,” a Boeing spokesman told AFP news agency in a message.

Reportedly, United Airlines flight UA328 had an engine problem shortly after departing from Denver to Honolulu.

Video recorded from inside the plane shows the right engine burning and bobbing on the wings of the Boeing 777-200. At that time, the plane was carrying 231 passengers and 10 crew members.

Residents of Denver, Colorado, found large debris strewn across the area.

There were no injuries on the plane or on the ground, authorities said.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requested to inspect a few more passenger planes after the incident.

The U.S. National Transportation and Safety Commission also said it was investigating the incident, while United Airlines, Asiana, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways stopped flying line 777.
