Biden announced a number of future cabinet officials

President-elect Biden selected six people to join the new cabinet, heading up the diplomatic and security services.

On the list of the first cabinet options announced by President-elect Joe Biden on November 23, former Deputy Foreign Minister Antony Blinken and former aide to Biden was selected as Foreign minister. Blinken, 58, a graduate of Harvard University and Columbia Law School, endorsed Biden to win the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

Veteran diplomat Linda Thomas-Greenfield was selected United States Ambassador to the United Nations.

Jake Sullivan, an assistant to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election, will join the White House team as National Security Advisor.

Alejandro Mayorkas, a lawyer of Cuban origin, former Vice Minister of National Security (DHS), was selected as Minister of National Security. Cuba’s first secretary of Homeland Security, if approved, will be tasked with rebuilding the agency that has taken some of the toughest measures regarding President Donald Trump’s immigration policy.

Location Director of National Intelligence (DNI) will belong to Avril Haines, who served as deputy director of the Central Intelligence Service (CIA) and former deputy national security adviser. If approved by the Senate, Haines will be America’s first director of national intelligence.

Former Secretary of State John Kerry was nominated climate special envoy. Kerry is a supporter of the Paris Agreement on climate change, the landmark agreement from which Trump withdrew. Kerry, who is appointed without Senate approval, will have a seat on the National Security Council (NSC).

“This is the first time that the NSC has included an official in charge of climate change, reflecting the president-elect’s commitment to addressing climate change as an urgent national security issue.” Biden’s transfer team said in a statement.

Biden’s choice for location Finance MinisterThe manager of the world’s largest economy is Janet Yellen, who will make history as the first woman in this position if approved by the Senate.

The above options reflect Biden’s desire to build a diverse cabinet with experts well versed in public policy and experience in government. In a statement, Biden described these options as “fundamental” for a group tasked with reasserting US leadership globally.

“They will bring the world together to face challenges like ours, challenges that no other country can face alone,” Biden tweeted. “The time has come to restore American leadership.”

Many of Biden’s cabinet options will need approval in the Senate, where Republicans have a majority. However, Democrats could take over the Senate leadership if they win the second round of elections for two senator seats in Georgia in January.
