Previously, public opinion in the capital, Minsk, rumored that the leader was preparing for a short inauguration, which would take place quickly, while the opposition continued to oppose the results of the 9 September elections.

According to the official results of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, current President Alexander Lukashenko won with an overwhelming 80.1% of the votes compared to his opponent Svetlana Tikhanovskaya (10.12%). However, the opposition leader refused to acknowledge the results of the vote and left Belarus for Lithuania.

Since then, protests have been frequent in Minsk and other cities, and some places have turned violent, prompting President Lukashenko to appeal to his Russian ally.

After the inauguration was announced, the Russian Defense Ministry also said that Russian paratroopers parachuted into Belarusian territory during a joint training exercise.
Reuters quoted some military analysts as saying that this was Russia’s move to support President Lukashenko.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 900 Russian soldiers participated in the exercises with their Belarusian allies, and about 100 vehicles, weapons and weapons were deployed during the occasion.

German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said on the same day that he did not recognize Lukashenko as the legitimate president of Belarus.
