Beijing has switched to an “emergency response mode” after the city repeatedly recorded new cases of Covid-19 this month.

“There have been many sporadic outbreaks. The control situation is very serious,” a Beijing government spokesman said on December 27. All counties, agencies and units must enter an emergency response and fight, with stricter measures and rules to prevent the spread of the virus. “

The Chinese capital registered five more cases of Covid-19 on December 26, while another positive case has not been officially confirmed due to the absence of symptoms. The latest infections have emerged in the Shunyi district, north of the city, near the Beijing International Airport.

In all, 13 cases have been detected in Beijing since the first case was reported on December 18, 152 days after the occurrence of new infections.

The city is accelerating its epidemic response to strict enforcement of regulations on medical reports, the use of masks and temperature controls in public places, while schools are demanding that parents prepare for winter break earlier.

Villages and residential areas in Thuan Nghia district, Trieu Duong, where Covid-19 was discovered, have been blocked and measures to control access have been imposed. Authorities have also started mass testing in those areas. In Trieu Duong, 234,413 people were tested on December 26 with all negative results. Thuan Nghia District collected 838,270 samples, and nearly 390,000 people tested negative, while the rest were waiting for the results.

Residents are advised not to leave the city, unless absolutely necessary, during the upcoming New Year holidays and the Spring Festival. The city also imposes restrictions on entertainment and tourist venues to avoid gathering during vacations.

Zhou Weimin, an official with the Beijing Department of Culture and Tourism, said the city does not encourage travel agencies or travel websites to organize group tours. Beijing travel agencies are banned from offering flight and hotel packages or group travel to recent Covid-19 booming cities. International travel is also prohibited.

According to Zhou, all indoor parks, landscapes, entertainment venues and public places are only working at 75% capacity. Staff at free attractions have also been asked to prevent people from gathering.

Ten new cases have also been reported in Shenyang and Dalian in northeast China’s Liaoning Province. These two cities are working to control outbreaks related to imported Covid-19 cases.
