Radio RT (Russia) quoted on September 30 a statement from the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry saying that some 2,300 “enemy troops” on the Armenian side had been destroyed or wounded since the last fighting broke out in the Nagorno region: Karabakh.

The Azerbaijani side added that an Armenian S-300 air defense system was destroyed on the front line in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, along with some 130 tanks and more than 200 artillery systems.

“During the fight yesterday (September 29) in the Shushakend region of the Khojaly district in Nagorno – Karabakh, an enemy S-300 air defense missile system was destroyed,” the news agency said. TASS to guide the September 30 statement of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense.

Earlier, on September 29, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry warned that its armed forces would destroy the Armenian S-300 missile systems if they were deployed in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

Meanwhile, officials in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh territory said 80 of their soldiers had died.

Also on September 30, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia said that the country was not ready to participate in talks with Azerbaijan under the leadership of a Russian intermediary. “There must be a suitable environment and conditions for negotiations,” he declared.

Nagorno – Karabakh is a land inhabited by the majority of Armenians but within the territory of Azerbaijan. Nagorno – Karabakh declared its independence, but the international community still considered it part of the territory of Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, Armenia regularly supports Nagorno-Karabakh.

Clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke out on September 27 after both accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement in 1994. At the same time, spokesman Shushan Stepanyan of the Armenian Defense Ministry said that shelling continued throughout the front area in Nagorno-Karabakh. Stepanyan added that two Azerbaijani drones were shot down in the city of Stepanakert in Nagorno, Karabakh.

Azerbaijan currently has the support of Turkey. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Armenia to end the “occupation” of Nagorno-Karabakh. On September 29, the Armenian army announced that its Su-25 fighter had been shot down by a Turkish F-16. Both Turkey and Azerbaijan have denied this information.
