SwedenA 70-year-old woman was arrested in the city of Stockholm on suspicion of having her child in the home for nearly 30 years, authorities said.
“The suspect’s son is in hospital and needs surgery,” prosecutor Emma Olsson said today in Stockholm, Sweden, adding that the man in his 40s was wanted by a relative. I was injured in an apartment in the Haninge district on November 29, but did not provide details.
Meanwhile, many Swedish media cited relatives who said the victim was found lying on the ground in the middle of a blanket, toothless, unable to speak and with a body covered in wounds. The identities of both the victim and the suspect were not released.
According to Expressen and several other news agencies, her son was forced to leave school at the age of 12. In the messy apartment where the man was found, two yearbooks from 1995 and 1996 hung on the wall, the relative added.
Prosecutor Olsson said the mother denied the accusations of illegal confinement and serious bodily injury. There is no explanation why the man was locked up for many years.
Police closed the apartment in the Haninge district, south of Stockholm, for investigation purposes, after receiving notification of the victim from hospital staff.
“We are investigating how long this man may have been incarcerated, but assessing that it is a long time,” a police spokesman said.
