HanoiOn the afternoon of February 25, the Advisory Council for the registration of drug circulation proposed to the Ministry of Health to approve the Covid-19 vaccine from Moderna, USA, and Sputnik V, Russia.

The proposal for this approval is to bring the vaccine to Vietnam for use in an urgent need to prevent and combat Covid-19.

Moderna’s vaccine, mRNA-1273, uses synthetic mRNA technology to mimic the surface of nCoV, teaching the immune system to recognize and then neutralize the virus. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved this vaccine on December 11, 2020, and on December 16, 2020, that the vaccine is 95% effective. The vaccine currently sells for $ 37 per dose and can be stored at 2-8 degrees Celsius.

Sputnik V is a vaccine from JSC Generium, Russia, also known as Gam-COVID-Vac. Third-stage test data of 20,000 people published in the leading medical journal Lancet in early February found that Sputnik V is 91.6% effective in symptomatic nCoV infections. Vaccines stored at 2-8 degrees C, priced below $ 10 on the international market.

If approved, this will be the second and third Covid-19 vaccines approved by Vietnam, after AstraZeneca’s ChAdOx1 vaccine.

The first 117,600 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine were brought to Vietnam on the morning of February 24. The vaccine has been approved by the Ministry of Health in an emergency, rapid authorization, and is waiting for the evaluation to be administered to the priority groups.
