Another Vietnamese officer was hired to staff the United Nations headquarters

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Duc Huong accepted the post of Planning Officer, Military Planning Division, Department of Peacekeeping Operations, United Nations Headquarters (New York).

The United Nations has just announced the results to Vietnam’s permanent delegation to the United Nations. Consequently, Lieutenant Colonel Huong passed three rounds with excellent results.

While working for the Office of Military Affairs of the United Nations Office of Peacekeeping Operations, Lieutenant Colonel Huong was tasked with preparing and executing military plans for the departments; write and evaluate campaign strategies and levels, action plans and fighting conventions; oversee the organization of personnel, equipment and capacity of military forces, units …

Major General Hoang Kim Phung, director of Vietnam’s Department of Peacekeeping, said Lieutenant Colonel Tran Duc Huong was the second army officer recruited to work at the United Nations headquarters in New York. “This is one of the typical cadres, qualified to solve problems due to practical experience and extensive knowledge,” General Phung said.

The planning officer position selection process consists of 3 rounds: profile selection; written exam; interview exam. On average, a vacancy receives around 200 resumes from member countries.

About a year ago, Lieutenant Colonel Luong Truong Vinh also accepted the position of planning officer for the United Nations Office of Peace Operations, now assuming his duties in New York.

On October 22, the Defense Ministry granted the president’s decision and assigned three officers to work in the United Nations peacekeeping mission. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ba Hung and Ly Thanh Tam will serve as military observers in the mission in South Sudan; Major Dao Duy Tung is an Information Analysis Officer in the Central African Republic Mission.

Vietnam has officially participated in the United Nations peacekeeping operation since 2014. So far, 50 officers have been assigned to carry out their duties in individual posts in Central Africa (MINUSCA), South. Sudan (UNMISS) and two level 2 field hospitals in South Sudan with 126 employees, staff and doctors.

This afternoon, October 24, in front of the National Assembly, Defense Minister Ngo Xuan Lich, authorized by the Prime Minister, presented the Declaration of the draft resolution on joining the United Nations peacekeeping force. After the National Defense and Security Committee reports on the verification, delegates will discuss the draft Resolution online.
