The plan is to strengthen the United States’ medical supply chain and support new technologies like 5G to confront and compete with China, the Democratic Party said.
According to the newspaper South China Morning Post Office (SCMP)Democrats in the United States Senate announced on September 17 a bill that grants more than 350 billion dollars in 10 years to develop the industrial capacity of the United States, they challenge China. This is a bill proposed by New York Senator Charles Schumer and New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez.
Senate Democrats said the bill aims to strengthen America’s healthcare supply chain and support new technologies like 5G, artificial intelligence and prevent China’s “predatory economic practices.” Realms like intellectual property theft, dumping, and currency manipulation. The bill also includes transparency requirements aimed at China’s influence campaigns in the United States.
In addition, the bill also proposed requiring the president to fully implement sanctions targeting China’s “bad behavior” and reaffirm the United States’ commitment to allies in the Pacific.
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman James Risch said at a hearing yesterday that he hoped the new bill could be combined with a similar Republican bill proposed in July.
Two bills were drafted in the context of US-China relations at the worst level in decades. The bill is a sign that whoever is elected and becomes the next president of the United States in the upcoming November elections will be tough on China.
