Airport staff were killed by lightning

HanoiA 40-year-old male technical staff member was checking and preparing for the plane’s departure when he was suddenly killed by lightning on the afternoon of September 22.

Mr. Tran Hoai Phuong, Director of the North Airport Authority, said that in the afternoon there were thunderstorms and thunderstorms in the Noi Bai area. Male staff from Vietnam Aircraft Engineering Co., Ltd. (VAECO) are technically inspecting the last stage of the aircraft to prepare for take off (flight number VN7715, Flight Hanoi – Vinh is expected to take off at 18:10), and then suddenly lightning strike.

The airport mobilized the local medical force to provide first aid and transfer the victim to an emergency hospital. However, this man died on the way to the hospital. The Northern Aviation Authority and VAECO delivered the body to the family for their funeral and condolences.

According to Mr. Phuong, this was the first time that lightning struck the deaths of the Noi Bai airport staff. It is normal for an aircraft to be struck by lightning, even when parked and in flight. The manufacturer has designed it to protect against lightning so that the aircraft is not affected. Noi Bai has recorded cases of lightning striking aircraft and equipment on the platform.

From the afternoon of September 22, storms appeared in the North with thunder and strong winds due to the influence of cold air and the convergence of winds above 1,500 m. Forecasts of the Meteorological Agency, today the North continues to rain, popular 50-100 mm in 24 hours; particularly in the provinces of Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan, there are places of more than 150 mm.

Starting tomorrow (September 24), the heavy rains gradually subside.
