Days have passed since President Trump’s advisers held a press conference on his dwindling legal efforts to overturn the election results. Trump’s campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh has not posted a post on Twitter in nearly a week.
“Nobody in the campaign really did anything,” said the senior campaign official.
In Washington, however, President Trump has not given up efforts, while also minimizing presidential duties and announcing on Twitter that he will “soon prevail” in the election.
Several aides from Trump’s team leave work and return home during the Christmas season.
“There’s just a pretty small team left,” said a Trump campaign adviser.
President Trump’s attempt to reverse the election result is fought with a legal battle led by lawyer Rudy Giuliani. However, most of Trump’s advisers said this legal battle will not produce positive results.
“The window is closing. Chances are high that he (Trump) will run again in 2024. But if he wants to, he doesn’t want to diminish his position as a loser. Trump’s unofficial economic problem said.
In recent days, President Trump and the electoral team have suffered a severe blow in the attempt to reverse the election results. On November 24, the state of Pennsylvania certified the election results with Mr. Biden’s victory. Meanwhile, the White House also confirmed that Biden will soon have access to the president’s daily intelligence reports.
On Capitol Hill, senators from states close to Trump like West Virginia, Tennessee and Louisiana urged the president to begin the transition and review his legacy.
At the White House, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows briefed employees on the transition of power on the night of November 23 (US time). “Our work here is not done yet,” Meadows said.
“He (Trump) will start the processes. But that doesn’t mean I’m giving up on the war, ”Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel told Fox News.
In his rare public appearances, Trump did not respond to questions from the press about whether he would accept defeat. According to Politico, he has avoided questions from the press for 21 days – a long time for a president who doesn’t care about camera lenses like Trump.
Other than posts on Twitter, Trump has not issued a statement on the election for days. However, a Republican official close to the White House said on Nov. 23 that Trump was furious after seeing a reaction to the press conference held by his legal team last week.
Campaign participants and top Republican officials have tried to distance themselves from this legal war. Advisers told President Trump that he did not need to compromise, but advised him to preserve his legacy and begin the power transfer process.
“Unless the legal situation suddenly changes, Joe Biden will take office on January 20,” Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham said.
A senior campaign adviser said Trump’s legal group is currently only trying to openly substantiate a “fairer” election in 2022 and 2024.
“They are trying to figure out how the campaign can set this for future elections after 2020,” the adviser said.
Behind the scenes, President Trump appears to be thinking about his future after finishing his term in the White House, according to Politico. Maybe invest in a media company or run in the next presidential election.
Some members of the Trump family are also looking back on the past four years. On Instagram, President Trump’s daughter and adviser Ivanka posted old photos of the family, including Jared Kushner, visiting various places in Washington, DC and while on vacation.
