After a period of “hiding” in the high mountains due to storms, white-nosed langurs came down the road to chase and attack, causing 2 people to be injured, having to sew many stitches.
On the morning of November 19, Ms. Ho Thi Ven, Chairperson of the Huong Lap Commune People’s Committee, Huong Hoa (Quang Tri) District, said that after the storm, the white-nosed langur (also known like Ha Tinh langur) ran down the road to chase, attack pedestrians.
White-nosed langurs rushed down the road to attack people
Specifically, on November 17, Mr. Ho Van Lien (28 years old, living in Ta Pang Village, Huong Lap Commune) was riding a motorcycle on the Ho Chi Minh Highway, passing Se Pu Village, a flock of white-nosed langurs, including 3 children, took it out right away. Persecution. In it, there was a male langur weighing about 15 kg, scratching, biting Mr. Lien’s leg, leaving many teeth marks, bleeding scratches.
The victim was taken to Huong Lap Medical Station for immediate treatment.
Before that, Mr. Ho Van Trinh (24 years old, living in A Soc village, Huong Lap commune) who was riding a motorcycle on the previous road was also chased and bitten on the leg by langurs. Mr. Trinh had a broken leg, lost a lot of blood, and had 9 stitches.
This male white-nosed langur often chases and bites people.
According to the Huong Lap Commune Ranger Station, in the past 2 days, the langur herd frequently made their way to the Ho Chi Minh route, the western branch, through the villages of Se Pu and Cha Ly, chasing people and worrying a lot of people.
In early October, the competent forces deployed a net almost 1 km long and 8 m high as a temporary solution to prevent the langurs from rushing into the streets to attack people.
However, heavy rains and floods in October left construction unfinished. Some sections of the network suffered landslides, they slipped off the anchor piles, so they are only 1-2 m high, making it easier for langurs to dive onto the road.
“Over the next week, the relevant forces will continue to build this section of the network and at the same time repair the damaged sections to prevent langurs from entering the road,” said Ms Ven.
The functional force extends the net to prevent langurs from attacking people.
As Nguoi Lao Dong reported, recently in the rocky mountainous area of Huong Lap Commune, white-nosed langurs have 3 children, each weighing 6 to 15 kg. They often descended the side of the road between villages and the Ho Chi Minh Highway on the western branch, chasing and attacking passersby. So far, more than 10 people have been attacked, causing injuries.
