United States Vice President Mike Pence said on May 5 that his Covid-19 response team could be dismantled by the end of the month.
“I think we will use Memorial Day (May 25) or early June as a benchmark” to disperse the task force, Pence told reporters. The group is chaired by him and regularly briefs President Donald Trump on collaborative work, operations between health centers, government officials, and state governors in an effort to combat Covid-19. The working group also brought together health professionals to help develop community segregation recommendations to prevent the spread of nCoV.
Vice President Pence said previous jobs will soon be transferred to government agencies that often work “in a more traditional way.”
The move comes as President Trump is shifting his focus to promote the reopening of the economy. Trump said that while he wants to reopen “safely,” the difficulties of shutting down the economy remain a major threat.
“We cannot close the country for the next five years,” he said yesterday during a visit to a mask factory in Arizona. The President of the United States acknowledged that some people will be “seriously affected.”
White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said Trump would continue to receive regular reports on the disease situation despite the fact that the crisis response team was no longer available.
“The news from the task force that the White House has nothing to do with medical professionals is wrong. That is completely untrue. President Trump will continue his efforts to reopen based on the data is out,” he wrote on Twitter. .
Covid-19 has appeared in more than 210 countries and territories, causing more than 3.7 million infections and almost 258,000 deaths. The United States remains the world’s largest epidemic region with more than 1.2 million infections and more than 72,000 deaths.
