According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Do Thang Hai, the high price of pork is due to the market mechanism.
At a regular government press conference this afternoon, the press mentioned that the price of pork in the market last time rose very high in the context of difficult pig herds.
The Prime Minister repeatedly asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to import to reduce the internal CPI, knowing that large livestock companies in this field also do not want to import to raise prices.
“Why does MARD not import pork according to the Prime Minister’s instructions?
At the government’s regular meeting this morning, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to import pork to guarantee supply and demand and reduce the CPI.
So whether or not disqualification creates a monopoly on the supply of pork to the market, when large livestock companies have a market share of 35%? “
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Do Thang Hai, the high price of pork is due to the market mechanism.

Mr. Hai said the current supply of pork is still lacking due to objective factors when it has not recovered after the African swine cholera outbreak. There are still some provinces that have yet to announce the end of the epidemic, so farmers still don’t feel safe in breeding.
On the other hand, the price of the seed is high, at 2-3 million VND each, which also makes farmers lack capital when they want to reproduce again.
According to MARD calculations, in some provinces and cities, this figure is more than 50%. While 20 large pig producers only represent 35% of the market share, the rest depends on small producers. Farmers face difficulties, so the shortage is even greater.
It is expected that by the end of this year, the country’s total swine herds will be able to return to the pre-epidemic situation, at which time it will be sufficient to supply meat for domestic consumption.
To compensate for the lack of meat, the Prime Minister allowed 100,000 tons of pork to be imported, but half of it was imported in late April. Mr. Hai said that pork imports will be strengthened to meet the given quantity, reducing domestic meat prices.
The Vice Minister of Industry and Commerce also stated that the process of importing companies does not need to go to any other ministry or sector, such as the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, but only needs the food safety certificate of the Regional Veterinary Department, then the Office of customs at customs.
With the solutions implemented, the Vice Minister of Industry and Commerce expects that by the end of the year, pork prices will be as stable as before African cholera.
The same problem, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong said the current challenge is the habit of using fresh meat from people, making it quite indifferent to imported meat, although it is cheaper.
Therefore, importing companies also hesitate, they do not dare to import much because the import will not sell, the loss.
According to Mr. Phuong, this consumption habit also hinders the operation of the market.
